Pastors Ponderings

Here is the latest blog from ‘Mrs Jesus follower’. You can catch up with all her thoughts on the CBBC website.

I gave the dear man a hug and walked to the car. A feeling of helplessness swept over me and it was with a heavy heart that I drove away leaving him alone and in despair.

My heart was crying out…this is where we all are without hope! This emptiness…this feeling that life was no longer worth living was all he had to focus on. This is what’s left when we refuse to accept the hope that comes from God.

This had also been my focus earlier in the week when, as I am in the habit of doing, I reflected on the past year.

Instead of prayers being answered, life had just got a whole lot more complicated. I felt flat…my spiritual life had plateaued but as I strolled through the bush I realised that I’d never ever lost the reality that God was there in it all…I just couldn’t work out what He was doing!! That’s when he gently spoke to me and I could truly say,

‘I let go of knowing the answers…I let go of understanding. Do what you need to do in my life, Lord Jesus. I’m yours and whatever happens one thing is certain and that is that my hope is in you! You are the One constant that is still there when everything tumbles down around me! The evidence of God’s faithfulness through 2017 was simply that He is faithful!! No miraculous answers to prayer, just this one profound truth that our God who changes not…has once more shown his faithfulness.”

This is the hope that is ours! This is the hope that the world doesn’t know. This is the hope that spills out…don’t you love that thought?…when people see Christ in us.

So, imagine my joy when Julie says let’s focus on hope this month! And then, after listening to George, it was like now he’s unwrapped and shared with us all the wonderful truth of Christ in us the Hope of Glory!!!!

I was fairly buzzing by the time the service was over 😊 How faithful is our God!!

And so, this is my prayer for you for 2018…

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
