Christies Beach Baptist Church sponsors a ministry within our local communities called SAFE.Centre (see safecentre.org). This is part of our commitment to follow Jesus by “loving our neighbours.”
Creating a safe space for diverse local communities requires an openness to others who are different from us; hospitality requires us to embrace people as they are without expecting them to think or act as their hosts do. The best communities are not those where many topics are “off limits.” Great communities learn from one another by participating in hard conversations. The goal is not to change people, but to genuinely know and be known by one another. When we can accept one another’s right to be themselves then we will truly be a SAFE.Centre.
These series of workshops allow us to learn how to have hard conversations.
SERIES ONE: The Why and How of Hard Conversations with Julie Gardiner, was run at the SAFE.Centre on June 04, 11, and 18. You can access video or audio recordings of these sessions on the SAE.Centre website, under Hard Conversations.
